Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. Motor insurance is mandatory for vehicles driven and registered in Qatar. At minimum, vehicles must have valid Third-Party Liability insurance. You can also choose Comprehensive insurance for broader protection, subject to the insurer’s terms and conditions. This will be requested at Fahes during your car registration renewal.

Third-Party Liability insurance generally covers your legal liability for damage or injury caused to others by the insured vehicle. Comprehensive insurance provides broader protection and may also cover accidental damage to your own vehicle, as well as other risks specified in your policy.

Comprehensive insurance typically provides cover for accidental damage to your vehicle and third-party liability. Depending on the plan, it may also include benefits such as theft and fire cover, roadside assistance, agency repair, natural perils or GCC coverage. Coverage varies by insurer and plan.

Insurers consider several factors when calculating your premium. These may include your vehicle's make, model, age and value, the driver's profile and claims history, the selected coverage and additional benefits. Each insurer applies its own underwriting and pricing criteria.

The insured value generally reflects the vehicle's value at the time of insurance and may take into account factors such as the vehicle's make, model, year and market value. The final insured value is subject to the insurer's acceptance and underwriting rules.

Agency repair means that eligible covered repairs can be carried out through the vehicle's authorized dealership or agency rather than another approved repair facility. Availability may depend on the vehicle's age, insurer and selected insurance plan.

The deductible, also known as the excess, is the amount you may be required to pay toward an eligible claim before or as part of the insurer's settlement. The amount and circumstances in which it applies are specified in your insurance policy.

It depends on your insurance policy. Some policies may cover other authorized drivers, while others may apply driver-age restrictions, additional deductibles or other conditions. Check the driver eligibility requirements of your selected plan before allowing someone else to drive the vehicle.

Not necessarily. Some motor insurance plans may offer or allow you to add geographical coverage for certain GCC countries. The countries covered, type of protection and applicable conditions vary between insurers and plans, so check your policy before travelling.

The required information and documents may vary depending on the insurer and vehicle. You may be asked to provide identification details, vehicle registration details and other information required by the insurer to provide a quote or issue the policy.

Yes. You can compare available insurance plans when your policy is due for renewal and choose another insurer if you prefer, subject to the new insurer's eligibility and underwriting requirements.

If you are involved in an accident, first make sure everyone is safe. Report the accident through the applicable Ministry of Interior (MOI) / Metrash procedure or contact the relevant authorities where required. Once the accident is registered and the required report is available, contact your insurance company to start your claim. The insurer will advise you on the required documents, vehicle assessment and repair process.

Eligible traffic accidents can be reported electronically through Metrash. Follow the accident-reporting instructions, provide the requested vehicle and accident information, and upload any required photographs or supporting information. For accidents that cannot be processed through Metrash, contact the relevant authorities for assistance.

If the insurer determines that your vehicle is a total loss following a covered event, the claim will be settled according to the terms, conditions and valuation provisions of your policy. Any applicable deductible or other adjustments may be taken into account when calculating the settlement.
